Equipment Testing

Our Solution

A E Solutions (BI) offers the possibility to test a person's interaction with a variety of equipment, using a biometric monitoring, where the wearer is monitored and measured for his/her physiological reactions such as: skin temperature, stress, heart rate, breathing, posture, recovery and reaction times. Significant physiological changes may be an indication that the person is suffering some kind of stress while using the equipment.

Testing New Rucksacks Field Trial

We undertook a field trial in order to test the commercial version of Crib Gogh rucksacks against the market leaders. This task was set in The Roaches in the Peak District National Park, UK which comprises Hen Cloud and Ramshaw Rocks forming a grit stone escarpment marking the south-western edge of the Peak. Hen Cloud is an impressive, solitary edge which rises steeply from the ground below. The Roaches themselves have a gentler approach and actually consist of two edges, a Lower and Upper tier, with a set of rock-steps connecting them. Below and to the west of the main edge is a line of small subsidiary edges known as the Five Clouds.

Two male persons took part in this task which occurred over two occasions in May and June 2010.

1. Steve is a 50 year old former Royal Marine who has maintained a very high level of fitness.
2. Rick is a 55 year old retired Police Officer who has not participated in physical activity since the year 2000.

Each person wore an Equivital biometric monitoring device for the entire trek and continuing for a further hour to test their recovery times. An activity log of the trek was maintained which enabled the physiological readings to be aligned to actual tasks that were undertaken. A specified activity vocabulary was used to ensure that subsequent analysis could be accurately aligned to the relevant tasks.

Results

The results clearly identified the differences in comfort between the two rucksacks indicating the superiority of the Crib Gogh product.
